Healthy lifestyle means to keep and improve the health and stay fit. Several steps can be taken like eating healthy food, be physically and mentally active and top of it is managing stress to live a healthy lifestyle. Healthy lifestyle is not limited to healthy eating and physically active, but also about taking care of physical, mental and emotional well-being. You should establish a healthy lifestyle if willing to get stronger, lose weight and stay away from all odds of diseases.

There are several common ways to live a healthy lifestyle but it differs from person to person. But no doubt, Healthy lifestyle is important for disease prevention, longevity and wellness.

Below mentioned are the list of things to be taken care of to live a healthy lifestyle.

Healthy diet, can minimize the risk of developing and managing health problems like diabetes and heart disease. Opt eating variety of foods, eat regular meals and include fibre, fruits and whole grains and lesser the amount of fat, sugar and salt.

Food you eat should have calcium, iron, vitamin D, iodine, omega-3 etc. as all these are important for bones, immune system, cell growth and even mental health. Include fruits like avocado, apricot, watermelon, kiwi, guava, strawberries and many more in your diet and they contain lots of vitamins and minerals.

Similarly, foods like kidney beans, black beans, long beans, green beans and carrots are very good for health. Bright coloured fruits and vegetables are good for health as remove the things from our body that damages our cells.

Try to say NO to processed food. Processed food are not at all good for health as they have - no nutritional value, high added preservatives and high salt content. This all leads to higher blood pressure and other heart diseases. Ingredients of the processed food especially which ends with ‘ite’ or ‘ate’ will prove to be harmful in the long run.

Drinking lots of water may resolve many severe problems. Most of us avoid drinking sufficient water which can be harmful. Water is essential for body function. It is needed to remove waste and carry oxygen and nutrients around our body. Healthy lifestyle includes 8-10 glasses of water daily to stay hydrated.

There are many ways you can check that you are hydrated or not – one is, your urine should be colourless or slightly yellow in colour. If not, that means your body is not getting enough water. Some other signs are dry mouth and lips, and less frequency and less amount of urination.

Alcohol intake should be moderate i.e. 5-15 grams for women and 5-30 grams for men daily. Almost 12 ounces of regular beer or 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of distilled spirits are more than sufficient.

Getting enough sleep is important part of healthy lifestyle. Lack of sleep may welcome many health problems like obesity, heart disease, diabetes etc. Prolonging lack of sleep can affect immune system and can disturb you through cold and flu.

To get proper sleep at night, you need to avoid nicotine and caffeine before sleep. Make the soothing environment to help your body relax and sleep deeply at night. Alcohol helps you fall asleep faster but too much of alcohol that too much closer to your bedtime can affect your sleep.

Approximately an adult body needs 7-9 hours of sleep. If you feel sleepy while driving or while performing your daily tasks, which means your body is not getting enough rest/sleep. Try to track your sleep through apps and devices, this will motivate you to relax.

Regular exercise is the key to healthy life. Exercise daily instead of performing just few times in a week. Exercise not only improve your health, but also increases your life span, minimizes the risk of diseases, improves the function of heart, brain and body, develops higher bone density and also lose weight.

Always opt walking over driving or any other transportation for short distances. Climb stairs instead of elevators. Perform exercise wherever you are comfortable. Enjoy physical activities you choose for yourself. This enjoyment will motivate you to do exercises daily without break.

Exercise is not pressurised act but it is all about being healthy and having fun simultaneously. Researchers suggest that every adult should aim for at least 1-2 hours of moderate intensity exercise daily. Also, every adult should walk almost 10,000 steps per day which sums-up to 5 miles.

Smoking comes in that category of health hazard which has no safe level. Every health specialist suggest to stop smoking and avoid passive smoking. Choose the healthy lifestyle for yourself and for others by saying ‘NO’ to smoking. Smoking leads to risk of lung cancer, kidney cancer, heart attack and many more. Don’t search for any other alternative (light cigarettes) of smoking.

Stop right now if you do smoke and do it not only for yourself but also for people around you. Active and passive smoking, both are equally injurious. It gifts you long term diseases. Like active smoking, there is no risk free level of passive smoking too. Try to stay away from smokers and avoid inhaling cigarette smoke as much as possible.

These days several policies are made to help people opt healthy diet and lifestyle. Some laws too are required to be made for citizens for their good health. But, above all this, every individual need to have self-control and strong wish to lead healthy life.
