Air pollution is a global burden and represents the health hazard to both in outdoor and indoor environments. Indoor air pollution is mainly due to burning wood fuel in the house, while outdoor pollution is due to urbanization and industrialization. Air pollution-related diseases have been reported to rapidly increasing in developing countries like India. The World Health Organisation has reviewed the association with air pollution and adverse health effects. It is the world’s leading cause of disease in part because of its connection to the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes.

Evidence shows that patients with Type 2 diabetes are more susceptible to the harmful effects of ambient air pollutants than non-diabetic individuals. It has been shown that people living in areas where air quality levels were above limits had a more than 20% higher prevalence of diabetes than people exposed to lower limits. Tobacco smoke contains some of the criteria air pollutant and results show an association between tobacco smoke and glucose metabolism. Tobacco smoke has been shown to be associated with Type 1 diabetes in children, metabolic syndrome in adolescent, and glucose intolerance in young adults and Type 2 diabetes in middle-aged.

An anti-inflammatory diet is highly recommended for those who have health problems, as certain food can cause inflammation that will worsen the problems. A diet which is rich in anti-inflammatory foods is considered as a healthy one. It comprises of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, plant-based proteins like beans and nuts, fatty fish, small amounts of lean meats and fresh herbs and spices. Supermarkets, groceries are stored are filled with processed foods and sugary drinks etc. The anti-inflammation diet isn’t a weight loss diet, but it’s designed to help to keep inflammation under control and will help to prevent swelling.

    • Olive Oil – Extra virgin olive oil is the healthy unsaturated fat in oil which helps to fight off infection and protect the heart.
  • Blueberries – They are the storehouses of nutrients known to fight off swelling and prevent cancer.
  • Garlic, Ginger, and Turmeric – They are loaded with nutrients and are excellent at fighting to swell in our body.
